If you're a bride-to-be getting ready for the big day, here are the best tips to prepare for your bridal trial and ultimately, your wedding!
The trial should 2-4 months out from your big day, that way you have plenty of time to prep or adjust the inspiration as needed!
Book your hair and makeup artist at least 8-15 months out for wedding dates on Friday-Sunday during October-May.
While this is really trending downward (thankfully!), make sure the looks are not photoshopped or digitally airbrushed. Are the pores very visible in the before but not the after? If any texture magically masked away in the after? Looking for these little things will help you feel more confident in the artist you love!
When checking for artists in the area, make sure you love their portfolio! This represents our favorite work + styles we’ve done, and shows you how recent the work was.
These features include:
• Hair color, length, density similar to yours
• Consider if extensions may required for your desired look or security of the style
• Order hair accessories or let your stylist recommend
• The makeup inspiration matches your skin tone, eye color, and level of makeup you’d like to wear.
Send your artist inspiration photos that match your own features, along with what you look like with minimal/no makeup.
Prep for your trial as if it’s your wedding day: get the hyrdracial, dermaplaning, eyebrow wax, spray tan (avoid the face), extensions (hand washed before styling), etc. This will really help you feel confident in what you can expect from the wear on the big day!
Wash your hair with shampoo at the root and conditioner mid-length/ends lightly. Blow dry at least the root before heading to bed! This will really help your hair hold a curl or tousled style without being weighed down by excess hair oil + ensure your hair is not wet when ready to style. Excess hair oil gets no love.
Wear a white top with a similar cut your dress. This will help you visualize the look with wedding dress your style!
If wearing a veil, bring it to make sure you love how everything sits together!
Arrive with a clean face, only moisturizer on (for makeup trials)
Make sure your hair and extensions are 100% dry from last night's wash
Limit guests to 0 or 1. It is really a special time in your trial to get to know your artists and really explore your taste and vision for the big day. I’ve had brides come back for a second trial because their +1 steered in them in a different direction.
How does everything wear? Are there any changes you’d like to make? For example, one of the most common recommendations I give are to pay attention to the blush. This and the lipstick are always the first that like to wear off, so we usually see where you’re comfortable with it, then add just a touch more (especially with all the hugging!).
Lastly, make sure your artists knows what you love and what you’d like to change! Take a few pictures of specific areas you’d like to update to ensure there is no confusion on achieving your look!
